Coccidiosis Medications
Coccidiosis is an organism that can infect all birds, but also dogs,
cats, sheep, cows, pigs and other animals. The interesting fact is
that they are very species-specific so that only pigeon Coccidiosis can
infect pigeons and only sparrow Coccidiosis can infect sparrows, etc.
There are several types that can infect each bird. Coccidiosis spreads
through the droppings and in order to reproduce they require a damp, warm
environment. Coccidia attracts the cells of the intestinal and multiply.
Intestinal inflammation occurs and this leads to diarrhea. The droppings
will be greenish-brown and may be bloody. It usually inflicts the
greatest damage on “weaned young ones”. Diarrhea is accompanied by
ruffled feathers, mopey attitude, lack of appetite and increased thirst.
Regular cleaning and a dry loft will help control Coccidiosis. If
the floor stays damp, you may want to use a drying agent.
